Killian Duivenvoorden

Killian Duivenvoorden is a product and fashion photographer who approaches creating images with a narrative-driven purpose. He uses lighting and set and production design to create imagery that is transformative and often nostalgic, visually pushing the line between the real and the fake.

Some of the images presented here are a small sample from an ongoing series exploring masculinity. Killian uses the archetype of the American cowboy derived from classic Western cinema to discuss the social and cultural influences on masculine performance of gender. Motivated by his own experience as a transmasculine individual and the overarching erasure of queerness in the American West, this series ultimately asks the audience to question what masculinity is or could be when not performed under the strict expectation of patriarchal and heteronormative maleness.
