Alex Freyberg

Alex Freyberg is a portrait and automotive photographer in the GTA. With a sharp eye for composition, her images are thoughtful and precise. The close crops and use of negative space are perfectly balanced, which gives viewers either the chance to examine the details of a subject, or to get a sense for the environment surrounding them.

One of her most recent projects is an experiment using AI to produce work that looks at gender and blurs the lines between masculinity and femininity. When inputting her images of masculine bodies decorated with flowers, artificial intelligence becomes confused, unsure of how to identify and censor the body of this “unknown gender.” Her work is showcasing the fluidity and complexity of these concepts; we can compare the biases that these programs have with the biases that we have as humans.
