Belicia Athanasas

Belicia Athanasas blends their Grecian heritage with their Mesoamerican roots. Their inspiration stems from modern documentary work, which they infuse with moody flair. Belicia is based in Kanadario, Kanata (Ontario, Canada).

In addition to their work as a portrait and fashion photographer, Belicia’s fascination with their hometown of Niagara Falls has led to their creation of a series about the Horseshoe Falls and Clifton Hill tourist district. Using artificial light, Belicia explores the gloomy and gorgeous ambiance of the city at night. 

In another ongoing series titled, con la brisa, Belicia is exploring their lineage while documenting their start in reconnecting to their Indigeneity. Through exploration of the senses as perceived by the body, Belicia has been able to recreate the feeling of familiar smells, sounds, and textures from their time spent living in Guatemala, transforming these sensations into imagery.
