Grace Spaans

Grace Spaans is an Ontario-based photographer who enjoys shooting landscapes, nature, and the occasional portrait. Her work is characterised by her use of natural light and often uses a strong colour treatment. Inspired by the work of Jim Richardson, Olivia Bee, and Robert Glenn Ketchum, she hopes to travel the province — and in due course the world — while documenting interesting places and unique people.

This selection of images comes from her thesis project, for which she combines her love of landscape with portraiture and post-production techniques, creating what she refers to as “deconstructed environmental portraiture.” The idea behind this visually dynamic project was to combine subjects in their 20s with places in which they find peace and happiness during this time of great change in their lives.
