Faces explores what happens when staged portraits are obscured with unpleasant objects, triggering an uneasy curiosity for the viewer. The familiarity of the yearbook-style portraits and layout is compromised by objects that are mundane and commonplace. As a result of this juxtaposition and contrast of scale, an aversion in the viewer is amplified.
