Maariyah Lodhi is an interiors photographer with a focus on cultural values and the spaces that reflect them. In this series, Maariyah addresses themes of immigration, family, and the connecting of two cultures that comes with relocation. Born in Toronto herself, the series connects her own experience to her family’s history and experience in Tanzania. By including archival images of her family as well as herself, she makes a statement on cultural and family values. With comparisons between the environment, food, and textures, Maariyah emphasizes contrasts faced by immigrants.
