Natalie Asumeng is a Toronto-based contemporary photographer who shoots unconventional fashion and still life. Through the years, Natalie has gravitated towards an interest in the human form and the rich colour and organic shapes of fresh produce. Comparing the two subjects, she brings in certain elements from both, creating synergy between the two, and developing a unity throughout her work. Two of the images presented are part of an ongoing series. The first marries fashion portraits with raw ingredients. The second is a series of complex still lifes of fresh vegetable sculptures that form the ingredients of a simple and common recipe. Concept is important in Natalie’s work; everything is structured and meaning is made through elements of design and her use of shapes and colours.
